HR Support FAQs
What is Thrive Law's Outsourced HR support?
Our outsourced HR service combines solicitor-led legal expertise with a human-centred approach that puts people and culture at the heart of your business. We start by ensuring your HR foundations are sound; reviewing or drafting employment contracts and handbooks so they are legally compliant, inclusive, and reflective of best practice in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I). From there, we support you with everything from holiday and sickness queries to restructures, disciplinaries, grievances, and performance management, always with a view to creating fair, high-performing, and engaged teams.
How much does outsourced HR support cost?
We start with a free scoping call to understand your business, your current HR position, and your priorities for the next 12 months. Based on this, we prepare a tailored proposal recommending the level of support and number of hours we believe will most efficiently meet your needs; focusing on both legal compliance and your wider people strategy.
How long does the support last?
We will work with you to build a package based on your needs, but typically our outsourced HR packages are designed for a 12-month period, giving you consistent and reliable support throughout the year to help your business and your people thrive.
What happens if I use up my hours before the end of the term?
If you reach your agreed hours before your package ends, we’ll discuss your ongoing needs and provide a renewal or top-up proposal so you can continue receiving uninterrupted support.
Who will be my dedicated adviser?
You’ll be allocated a dedicated team made up of a qualified solicitor and experienced support staff (trainee solicitors, paralegals and/or legal assistants). This ensures you get both expert legal advice and practical HR support, with a focus on creating fair and inclusive workplace practices.
Can you speak directly to our employees?
Unfortunately not; we advise the company, not individual employees, to avoid any conflicts of interest. However, if employees raise queries, we can help you draft responses that are clear, legally sound, and aligned with your values as an employer.
What if we receive an employment tribunal claim?
Our goal is to help you avoid disputes reaching that stage by embedding fairness, inclusivity, and best practice in your processes. However, if a claim is made, our dedicated litigation team can represent you. We’ll provide a separate quote for this work, and you may also wish to check whether your insurance covers legal costs.
Do you provide on-site support?
Yes; we can attend in-person meetings with you to discuss any ongoing matters. However, we cannot take part in internal meetings such as disciplinaries, investigations, or grievance hearings. If you need on-the-ground support for these situations, we have a trusted network of independent HR consultants and can provide a separate quote for their services.
Is your advice legally compliant and up to date?
Absolutely. Our HR support is delivered by qualified solicitors, so you can be confident that all advice is accurate, current, and tailored to UK employment law.
Can you help with HR strategy, not just day-to-day issues?
Yes; as well as reactive support for immediate issues, we work with you on proactive HR planning, workforce engagement, and initiatives to improve retention, wellbeing, culture, and performance.
How quickly can I get support once we sign up?
We can usually start supporting you as soon as your contract is signed. The initial focus will be on an HR health check to get your documentation and processes in order, so you’re covered from day one.
How is outsourced HR different from having an in-house HR manager or HR consultant?
An in-house HR manager is part of your staff and can directly manage day-to-day HR administration and employee interactions. Our outsourced HR service gives you solicitor-led advice, ensuring everything is legally compliant, strategically aligned, and legally privileged. This means any conversations between us and your team are non disclosable, compared to if this was discussed internally or with a HR consultant. Our guidance also incorporates best practice in ED&I, mental health, and wellbeing; helping you go beyond compliance to create a workplace people want to be part of.
Can you work alongside our existing HR team?
Yes; we regularly work alongside internal HR teams to provide specialist employment law input, assist with complex cases, or support during busy periods such as restructures or policy rollouts. We also provide a sounding board and are available for your HR team to bounce ideas off whether that is on WhatsApp by voice notes, Teams or email; we are here to help.
We don’t currently have any internal HR function – is that a problem?
Not at all. We can act as your HR function and assist with day-to-day tasks such as preparing contracts, issuing them for signature, and ensuring all key HR processes are in place. After your scoping call, we’ll factor this into our proposal to make sure you receive the level of support you need.
What size of business do you support?
We work with businesses of all sizes, from start-ups putting HR foundations in place to established companies needing ongoing expert advice; always tailored to your culture, people and growth goals.
Do you offer one-off HR or employment law advice?
Yes; while our outsourced packages are the most cost-effective way to get consistent support, we can also provide ad hoc advice or project work on a fixed-fee or hourly basis.
